This article will guide you on how to **backup a custom cursor scheme** (Mouse Pointers Theme).
After you set up your custom mouse pointers, it's a good idea to back up the theme so you can easily reinstall it later without having to manually set up each pointer.
### Steps to Backup Your Custom Cursor Scheme:
#### **Step 1: Save the Custom Mouse Theme**
- After customizing the mouse pointers, make sure to save the theme:
- Go to **Control Panel** > **Mouse** > **Pointers** tab.
- Save your custom theme by clicking **Save As...** and naming the theme.
#### **Step 2: Open Registry Editor**
- Press **Windows + R** to open the **Run** dialog.
- Type `regedit` and press **Enter** to open the **Registry Editor**.
#### **Step 3: Export the Cursor Scheme from the Registry**
- In the **Registry Editor**, navigate to the following path:
```
Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Cursors\Schemes
```
- **Right-click** the **"Schemes"** key and select **Export**.
- Save the exported file as a `.reg` file, and store it along with your custom cursor theme files.
By backing up both the registry file and your custom cursor theme, you’ll be able to quickly restore your settings if you need to reinstall the theme on the same or a new system.
Once you’ve completed the backup, if you need to use the theme again in the future, simply follow these steps:
1. **Copy the Icons**: Copy all the custom pointer icons you saved earlier to the following directory:
```
C:\Windows\Cursors
```
2. **Run the .REG File**: Double-click the `.reg` file you exported earlier to merge the registry settings back into your system.
Once done, your custom mouse pointer theme will be restored and active.
